The Mandala Center
is also an international hub for the training and grassroots
practice of Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed.
Augusto
Boal (1931-2009)
It is with great sadness that we pass
on the news that Augusto Boal, founder of the Theatre
of the Oppressed, died in the early hours of May 2, 2009.
To say that he will be missed by thousands, perhaps millions
across the globe may be an understatement. Augusto was a true
warrior of justice, a tireless champion for the marginalized
everywhere, and a visionary whose work will be carried on
in ways we have only begun to imagine. A great teacher and
mentor to many, he was perhaps the most genuine lover of people
I have ever known. May the seeds he has sown bare the most
profound fruit towards a better world for all.
We will miss you, Augusto.
