“DIVORCE! –
THE MUSICAL”
Continuing a project developed by students
during a residency at the Jefferson Community School this winter,
Marc Weinblatt works with a small group of Port Townsend teens this
May to refine and perform an interactive Forum Theatre musical theatre
play (complete with song and dance!) focusing on divorce and its
impact on the family. Both hilarious and delicate, this Forum musical
has already drawn teenagers into profound dialogue around this rarely
discussed issue. Due to the sensitive nature of the material, no
open-to-the-public performances are scheduled at this time. Contact
us for updates regarding opportunities for the public to witness
and participate.

POETIC
JUSTICE THEATRE ENSEMBLE -- SENIORS/ELDERS PROJECT The
Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble is in the final weeks of our Seniors/Elders
project, “The Wisdom Keepers”, which has been developed
to invite story sharing and generate dialogue around senior/elder

of his late grandmother, Mabel Harrison, and the gracious not-for-profit
umbrella of New Old Time Chautauqua, PJTE has scheduled four performances
in various Port Townsend senior residences / assisted living centers.
In addition, one performance will be open to the general public exploring
how to be an effective ally with elders in our community. Performance

The Poetic Justice Theatre
Ensemble is a community service project of the Mandala Center. Now
in our 4th season, this multi-generational (ages 17-78) troupe's focus
is on stimulating community dialogue and inviting positive action
around burning social issues. In our improvisational performances,
which combine Theatre of the Oppressed and Playback Theatre techniques,
audience members are not spectators but spect-actors -- invited to
share their stories and ultimately invited onstage to explore solutions
to their own questions and struggles. Most PJTE performances are oriented
for specific audiences around shared concerns although some are open
to the general public. Several recent performances focused on disability
issues. Other events anticipated this spring but not yet scheduled
include sexual assault, military recruitment, and GLBTQ issues. Please
contact us for more information if one of these events is relevant
to you and you wish to attend. |

3 art forms/pedagogies that support the development of critical perception
/ consciousness while empowering people to face social and internal
oppression: Theatre of the Oppressed, created by the Brazilian theatre
director Augusto Boal; Pedagogy of the Oppressed, created by the Brazilian
educator Paulo Freire; and Capoeira
Angola, an African Brazilian art form of over 400 years, developed
by Mestre Pastinha. |

After the festival,
the work will continue with a community based forum theatre project,
guided by Sandra Hernandes and Cheryl Harrison in May and June. Five
Seattle area community groups are already being formed: Youth (age
of 14 to 20), Immigrants/Refugees, Educators, Women, Social Activists.
This grassroots exploration will culminate in Forum Theatre performances
open to the general public supported by T.O. Jokers Sandra Hernandes,
